DOD Leadership Focus Needs an Adjustment

Commentary by Uncle Mike

The DOD leadership has presented new guidance to the policy established to go after white extremist in the military. Here is a link to the article by Meghann Myers that explains the update: Pentagon’s anti-extremism moves now part of a larger national strategy (militarytimes.com) .

Here is a takeaway quote from the article: “…and specifically those who espouse the superiority of the white race — and anti-government militia violent extremists posing the most lethal threat..”

Questions to ask: Are there other “extremists” in the military other than whites? The policy has been in place since January. How many “extremists” has the DOD put in confinement or discharged? What is the breakdown by race of these “extremists”? Are “anti-government militia violent extremists” in the US DOD in large numbers? How did they get in? Seems like a recruiting problem. The militia groups aren’t in the military, so the militia(s) are recruiting from active members. Is the coordination with Law Enforcement only focused on white militia groups?

The current DOD leadership has established a policy that will create disillusioned service members who rightly believe the leadership is coming after them based on their race. Especially white service members. The policy introduced insures divisiveness in the ranks. I would go so far as to say, they are creating racial problems in the military instead of fixing them.

Also, follow the money: “Elsewhere, the president’s 2022 budget request includes nearly $31 million to help the department develop a punitive regulation for prosecuting extremism.” Pretty sure the DOD already has “punitive regulation” that would put ANY EXTREMIST in Leavenworth. What exactly is that $31million going to be used for? Wonder what contractor will win that bid? Might be interesting to keep an eye on that.

Yesterday’s highlights included two deaths at Ft. Bragg that were believed to involve illicit drugs. Perhaps the DOD leadership would be better off spending time focused on some real problems that are slipping through the cracks, not just drugs, but other problems such as:

Gun running:

Let’s not forget the cyber war that the US seems to be losing to nefarious hacker groups:

Suicide Prevention:

Nearly a TRILLION DOLLAR budget and the focus is on racism in the one cohesive organization that was an example of unity. The emphasis on racism is the wrong path to head down.

The US military has more problems of greater significance than racism, especially suicide. But they are inserting politics into the one area the citizens of the USA used to have faith. It was an over-reaction to a problem that has not been highlighted due to political expediency unequal to the problems identified here. The Department has just demonstrated it too is now a political organization oriented on DC politics and not defending the nation from foreign adversaries. Adversaries that now have hypersonic carrier killing missiles and are working to improve and produce more, better nukes. There are other problems the Department should focus on fixing and let the chain of command handle extremists in the ranks.
