The NBA has a huge problem. Racism. Not in the way you think. A minority (more ways than one) owner of the Golden State Warriors named Chamith Palihapitaya, said nobody cares about the Uyghurs. Seriously. This multi-millionaire is so out of touch that he claimed this on his ‘podcast’ on Saturday. Today being Martin Luther King Jr. Day and all, I thought it might be appropriate to call out his racism. Or is it…greed.
The Uyghurs are muslims that provide slave labor to the Chinese and by proxy, the NBA millionaires. Perhaps it’s time no one “cares” about the NBA! Just an indicator of how out of touch the 1%ers are:

China makes clothes and sneakers for millionaire basketball players like LeBron James. Players that couldn’t give two shite’s about the plight of the Uyghurs in western China. China has more people watching the NBA than there are in the USA. Estimates are around 250 million Chinese fans. The NBA can’t have the communist racist Chinese fans be offended less they lose a Billion dollars abroad. How would LeBron James be able to make another movie about how black people in America are subject to brutal racism such as…. Insert your meme here.
I have nothing personal against Mr. Palihapitaya, but he is indicative of the problems I see from the 1%ers that are wealthy beyond anyone’s imagination and forget that they could have been put into Uyghur shoes upon his berth. He is just one of thousands of the 1%ers so rich they fail to understand the global environment as they live in a protected shell like the National Basketball Ass.
A couple years ago (6 OCT 2019) a Houston Rockets GM named Daryl Morey had to try to explain why he tweeted (4 OCT) “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong”. It is fair to say Mr. Morey understood more about China than anyone else in the association. For about an hour, Morey’s boss, Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta clarified his tweet that the team was not a political organization. LeBron said Morey was “misinformed and not educated on the situation”. I argue Mr. Morey was EXTREMELY EDUCATED on the situation! Eventually, Morey did step down. But he was not “fired”.
Significant that the minority owner that is oblivious of the Chinese slave trade “owns” a team that plays in San Francisco, CA. The home to the current ‘Speaker of the House’, Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi has made millions from investments that undoubtedly support the Chinese. The San Francisco area that is so full of 1%ers, millionaires with tax shelters, that they are leaving California by the thousands to tax friendly states like Texas and Florida. States that understand there is a significant problem with the way the Chinese do business. Using slaves, paying slave wages. Not millions of dollars to look the other way.
Professional athletes are not the place you should go to for perspectives on global affairs. Especially when they make millions by not being ‘educated’, or even worse, choosing to look the other way. Where the hell is Greg Popovich?! Oh yeah, the Uyghurs don’t influence his check.
