Dear www.notquiterightnews.com readers,

What does 2/22/22 have in store for us today? Today is National Walk Your Dog Day in the US. Take the pooch for a stroll!

Here’s what I’m tracking today. Money.

Penny for your thoughts on the future of the penniless. Who’s minding the government checkbook?

“The COVID-19 pandemic is not over, and Congress’s unprecedented investment in the American economy has been prey to unprecedented levels of crime and fraud,” warned Brian D. Miller, the special inspector general, in a Jan. 31 report to lawmakers.

The above comment was written in an article in the Washington Post by Tony Room titled, “Immense Fraud creates immense task for Washington as it tries to tighten scrutiny $6TRILLION in Emergency Coronavirus spending”. Yes, that Washington post! Also, it must be really “immense” because it’s in the link twice:

‘Immense fraud’ creates immense task for Washington as it tries to tighten scrutiny of $6 trillion in emergency coronavirus spending (msn.com)

Who would ever believe that $6TRILLION (with a “T”) in government money would create criminal activity? Apparently that COVID virus not only gets people sick, but it makes them commit crimes with government money. Notice I didn’t say, ‘taxpayer money’. The “taxpayer” isn’t close to being able to provide that kind of revenue in taxes to this government.

The article provides a couple different cases, ones that are known about, that indicate how the funds were swindled and some people responsible. But I don’t blame the individuals. So they “bought a Porsche. And a Mercedes. And a BMW.” One person actually did this with COVID funds. I blame politicians of both sides for failing to supervise accountability of this monstrous sum. What do you expect from people that don’t have to be accountable for their votes. DC has been like this for decades.

This is the same government that pays .02 cents to make a penny. For years the US has been making pennies (out of zinc! The last year they used copper was 1982) at a loss. The US government lost over $85Million last year. It’s not even made of copper! Copper goes for about $9060 a ton. The latest pennies are made of zinc. Zinc costs about $3500/ton. The decision was made to kill the penny and it is way overdue:

Inflation is driving up the cost of everything. Even zinc. This increase would make the cost of the penny even greater if the government continued to make them. In their collective wisdom, they have been making pennies at a loss for years.

Not just the penny has been made at a loss. The US government lost over $33Million in nickel production. The nickel is made of 75% copper and only 25% nickel. Between pennies and nickels, the US government lost almost $120Million just last year. Why? Who is watching government spending?

The timing is pretty good. You can’t buy anything for a nickel anymore, much less a penny. Pennies will be obsolete 1 April, 2023. It won’t be long after that, that nickels will go away.

Is it any wonder that $6TRILLION slipped through the COVID pandemic without 100% accountability? The US government is too big to be able to do the simple things. Like eliminate losses such as penny manufacturing which should have been terminated years ago.

Voters need to understand what the government is doing and how it’s being done. What else is being done with tax revenue?
