NQRNews for 4 Mar: Information Warfare on Display in Ukraine, Politics as Usual in US

(Photo comes from a Time magazine article with images of the Ukrainian war. This photo is from Chris McGrath at Getty:  Photos Show Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine as it Unfolds | Time)

Dear NQRNews Readers,

Good day. I found a photo by Chris McGrath-Getty Images that perfectly captures the Ukrainian invasion. The photo is described as; “A burnt, damaged bedroom of an apartment is seen in a residential block hit by an early morning missile strike in Kyiv on Feb. 25”. The first item that stands out is a huge picture of a US $100 bill on the wall. After all, money is what this is all about and the former occupant knew this. In balance on the left we see a child’s drawing of a boat in the sunshine. On the right night stand we see an image of what appears to be Mother Mary with baby Jesus. This is a 21st century nuclear, Christian family that has probably left due to the barbarous nature of the invasion. Just a very powerful image that Chris McGrath captured. My heart goes out to this family and millions of other innocent civilians.

War is a terrible thing. There are no winners. The blame for this one, IMO, lies squarely on Vlad Putin. He deserves all the hell he is getting for this act. If there is a silver lining in his military act, it would be to give credit to Putin for uniting Europe. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has given the EU/NATO reason to come together in ways they have not done in decades. The EU is united on sanctions and common military defense. NATO will conduct a huge defensive exercise to send a message to Russia. Many other messages are being sent, however I believe this ‘media message’ that claims “9000 Russian’s killed” sends a better message:

That article will get to the Russian population. Messages like this (who knows right now how accurate this is) play well in Paris and London. They do not play at all in Moscow. There are continuous messages being push on the internet and many must be getting through to the Russian populace in the information war. These messages and biting sanctions are having an impact, but it will be some time before the effectiveness is measurable. These numbers will continue to grow on both sides. Russian military leaders are dealing with unexpected resistance and must be a bit troubled trying to figure out how aggressive (layman’s terms; how many more to kill and how are being killed) they can be. I will admit I am surprised by how well the Ukrainian defenders have fought.

On the US front internal political squabbles continue. There are multiple “fronts” on this war, not just militarily, due to diplomatic, informational, and economic war activities. The fact that President Trump forced NATO to pay more for defense and was lambasted by the US media, has been brought to focus. Trump was correct. It was the right thing for NATO participants to do. Pay for their common defense.  As Putin invades the Ukraine, the focus of one congressional Democrat led committee is investigating the 6 January riot to blame Trump for the capitol incursion. The purpose is to make sure Trump is incapable of running for President in 2024:

Jan. 6 committee work shifts into new gear getting closer to Trump – Roll Call

They are doing everything they can to prevent Trump from being able to run. They are using the same tactics as the west is using to get Putin by going after Trump’s inner circle. The point not being emphasized is President Trump was 100% correct in getting NATO to pay for their own defenses. For decades NATO left the preponderance of defense to the US. It didn’t work to prevent Putin’s efforts at expansion. I foresee a greater agreement by NATO countries to increase defense spending and reducing their faith in the US military.

The Biden administration has done many things wrong. The two worst in my opinion involve failing to understand their military adversaries and their literal enemy’s. Biden’s administration has an abysmal military record. They allowed the Taliban to roll through Afghanistan, they failed to plan evacuations properly, they left $84 Million in military equipment in the hands of the Taliban, and now they have failed to lead in countering Putin’s aggression. They offer platitudes, but not significant actions such as 100% oil and gas embargos. This administration has twice now underestimated the adversary and our allies are questioning the trust they placed in the US. They are still paying Russia for oil that is used to fund the Russian war machine and preventing the US from unification because of politics over irrelevant “climate chain”. Taiwan will make decisions accordingly.
